The firefighters at fire headquarters heard an explosion just before the dispatch went off, said James Gagliardo, communications coordinator of the Danbury Fire Department.
When they arrived at Fairlawn Avenue, there was a heavy fire at a two-bay, detached garage. The incident was upgraded to a working fire bringing in additional units to assist.
The garage had hazardous materials inside in the form of oxygen and propane tanks for a glass blowing operation. Since there are no hydrants on Fairlawn Avenue, members of Engines 4, 8 and 12 hand-stretched supply hose 700 feet across backyards from Edgewood Street.
The fire was quickly extinguished by crews on scene. No one was injured.
The Danbury Fire Marshals office is on scene investigation to investigate the cause.
